You watched an interesting video at YouTube, liked it, but not sure you completely understood it. We firmly believe that transcribing a video clip is an excellent way to improve one's listening comprehension. That's why we added YouTube video feature a few years ago. Since then, one of our users, Sting, quickly became a top contributor. He submitted many YouTube clips and did a wonderful job in transcribing them. It turned out Sting is a leader of a fascinating group in China of the dedicated English learners. He started the group last year to take advantage of YouTube's rich video offerings, and its members have since grown to over 200 from all over the world.
Each day they select one YouTube clip and assign it as the homework. Using QQ, a popular IM tool in Asia, they help one other to transcribe the video clips. So far, they have done over 300 transcriptions. Apparently, they have a lot of fun for doing it. And learning too.

Weathervanes, when this turns into this, you could be facing a major hurricane or worse a deadly tornado. At 74 miles per hour, a strong wind officially becomes hurricane force and more than half of all land falling hurricanes produce at least one tornado. A tornado, is a strong rotating column there that stretches upwards. Winds can exceed 200 miles per hour, about twice as strong as a bad hurricane. Morning-signs range from a dramatic shift to the wind to a dead come. There may be a continuous rumble sound similar to thunder, spinning debris and a strong rotating cloud base. Tornados and hurricanes both can be deadly. It is best to out of your house for worst-case scenario. Hurricane strips to hold your roof in place and secure a sturdy garage door, if a hurricane rips out, the high winds will enter your home and re-literally blow it up heart from
the inside out. If you find yourself staggering down the killer storm, follow these steps to survive.
A hurricane watch means a hurricane might pose a threat within 36 hours. A hurricane warning means it is expected within 24 hours. If you have time, stock abundant supplies like batteries, flash lights, extra food, water and material to board up windows. Look for possible dangers in your home, a propane tank can turn into a bomb. So turn tanks off and store in a secure place. Unplug small appliances, fill bath tubs or other large containers with extra water for flushing and bathing. Note the signs and keep your eyes peeled because once the wind picks up you will have to get to safety.
Unlike a hurricane, when a tornado hits, you might have 20 minutes top to seek out a safe zone. Go to the basement if you have one. But be aware of the floor plan above you, a heavy object like a sofa or piano can come crashing through the floor, crushing you to death. No basement, hatch shelter in an interior room like a closet
bathroom or a cross base. In an office building, seek a refugee in a low level emergency stairwell. Steer clear of windows, which can blow out during the storm. If you are outside, find a ditch or ravine (马路上的深沟), lie flat on your face and protect your head and neck with your arms. Do not seek a refugee in a car, a strong tornado can propel such objects up to a mile away and trees can turn into missiles. Once you have found the safest place you can, it is time to hunker down.
Getting inside the bathtub or under a heavy table or workbench, protect yourself with heavy padding like a blanket or mattress. If possible put bicycle helmet on kids strap babies into car seats and grab your heaviest shoes. Outside, do not take cover under a bridge or overpass, a tornado can sweep cars off bridge and send them hurtling toward you. Most tornados last only minutes, so hold on dear life and wait it out. When the wind dies, check for the damage, but don’t use matches or electrical switches until you sure that there is not gas leak. Then stand up, rush off and face the next storm, known that you have just survived and remember, follow these steps to fight the fury of the storm.

龙卷也称龙卷风，是强烈积雨云底部下垂的强烈旋转的象鼻状漏斗形云柱，出现在陆地上叫陆龙卷，出现在水面上叫水龙卷。龙卷的直径为几米～几百米，个别可达1000米以上，一般只有几分钟的时间，其移动距离是几百米～几千米，个别可达100～300km。龙卷的中心气压极低，比周围低几十～几百百帕，中心气压可低达400?02Pa以下，因此，龙卷的风速特大，甚至超过100～200m/s。龙卷中心垂直运动分布也不均匀，中心附近（眼区）为下沉运动，稍往外极强的上升气流可达50～60m/s，如图3-6所示。
由于龙卷中心气压低、风速大，所以破坏力很大，能拔树倒屋，能将人及地面物体卷吸上空中，可摧毁地面建筑物。
1、预防措施
（1）注意媒体报道。例如，广播、电视等。
（2）识别龙卷云。龙卷云除具有积雨云的一般特征以外，在云底会出现乌黑的滚轴状云，当云底见到有漏斗云伸下来时，龙卷就会出现。
2、应急与对策
（1）野外躲避
当在野外听到由远而近、沉闷逼人的巨大呼哨声要立即躲避。这声音或“像千万条蛇发出的嘶嘶声”，或“像几十架喷气式飞机、坦克在刺耳地吼叫”，或“类似火车头或汽船的叫声”等。
如在野外遇上龙卷，应在与龙卷路径相反或垂直的低洼区躲避，因为龙卷一般不会突然转向。
（2）室内躲避
当龙卷向住房袭来时，要打开一些门窗，躲到小开间、密室或混凝土的地下蔽所，上覆有25cm以上的混凝土板较为理想。
注意：汽车和活动房屋均没有防御龙卷的能力。
要在东北方向的房间躲避，并采取面向墙壁抱头蹲下姿势。因为西南方向的内墙容易内塌。
如没有地下室，应跑出住宅，远离危险房屋和活动房屋，向垂直于龙卷移动的方向撤离，藏在低洼地区或平伏于地面较低的地方，保护头部；可以跑到靠近大树的房内躲避（注意防止砸伤）。
（3）乘车躲避
当乘汽车时遭遇龙卷，应立即停车并下车躲避，防止汽车被卷走，引起爆炸等。
