Chinese venture capital deals up 31 per cent
A total of $348m of venture capital was invested in Chinese companies in the first half of 2004, a 32 per cent increase over the same
period in 2003. Foreign venture firms accounted for 85 per cent of the capital invested so far this year. Investments in the burgeoning
telecommunications sector, which already boasts more customers that the US market but still has almost a billion unserved people to
reach, accounted for 17 or the 37 deals. In addition, 11 deals took place in the semiconductor and integrated circuit makers sector and
10 internet services companies also received funding.
