Let's analyse two cases here:
1)Lots of phone calls to China are needed to prepare your business/job in China. We need to talk about all the details with your potential partners, who may also need to call you from time to time.
2)When you are working in China now, you want to keep your contacts with your friends and family in the US/Canada
Any good solution for both? Here's my own solution.
Using iTalkBB, for only $24.99, I could and can talk to China, Canada, Australia and other 20 countries free unlimited. With their China number, my friends in most major China cities could and can call me any time toll free (they only pay for local calls, I usually called them right back if the calls lasts for more than 1 or 2 min)
After I got back to China, I took the IP box with me, US and Canada friends can still reach me by calling my US number (I'm keeping my Oakland, CA local number 1-510-228-xxxx) using their celphone free time.
When I call my China friends with my IP box, I don't need to pay for the local calls(市话费). A friend of mine in Shenzhen used to pay more than 1000 yuan phone bill only for their calls within Shenzhen (Shatoujiao to Downtown Shenzhen), with their new iTalkBB account, they can also save more than 700 a month.
