Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, with one of the best known brands in the country. It offer a full range of services and compete in all telecommunications markets throughout Australia, providing more than 9.86 million Australian fixed line and more than 8.9 million mobile services.

To better serve its China clients, it had opened its Beijing office and it is recruiting a Chief Executive Officer to head up its online business organization. Whilst China internet experience would be desirable, it is essential to recruit a high caliber who is a true business leader with strong entrepreneurship. In other words the person has to be well rounded, have potential for development within the organization, have strong ambition and he or she needs to be very strategic.


Position Summary

This Online Business Chief Executive Officer role has overall responsibility for the effective management of the field sales organization and development of effective customer/partner oriented strategies to enhance loyalty and overall satisfaction within the online service team. In addition this role assists large customers in addressing business and technology issues associated with the deployment of technology in their enterprise.


The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for contributing to, managing and monitoring the subsidiary’s business plan in order to meet profit, revenue and customer satisfaction ob<x>jectives for every group.

Reports to: Group Managing Director

Major Responsibilities

Immediate Priorities:

• Work in headquarters to learn its business, people and culture.

• Provide insightful view and deep thinking to senior executives on China internet market, the business context and opportunities and challenges.

• Brainstorm the long-term winning in China strategy, highlighting the difference between local & global pla<x>yers.

• Develop and implement an overall regional strategy for China which both addresses the needs of the individual markets and the corporate financial goals and ob<x>jectives of the company. Working closely with the senior executives at corporate headquarters as well as the local team in the region, build an action plan to serve both existing and growth markets.

Future Responsibilities:

• Produce an annual business related Industry Plan detailing ob<x>jectives, industry strategies, solution roadmap, partner strategy and market activities.

• Collaborate with teams to identify optimal operational strategy and partner for the online business in China

• Daily management of sales and marketing staff in the team including sales, marketing, solution development, partner development activities and content programming of the site.

• Recruit, retain and develop the local talents and build the China team.

• Develop and maintain senior level relationships with customers and partners, with special emphasis on managing the team.

• Create, drive, and meet monthly sales forecasts for the entire China sales team.

• Drive & close a major business development deal(s) for distribution or content.

• Set product strategy and development plan for China specific products and services as developed and managed within the team.


CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Ideal Experience

• 8-10 years of related experience in the China internet industry preferred; strong connections within internet community and industry/market credibility/presence; Board experience either as a non executive director background is preferred.

• 5-7 years management experience; demonstrated effectiveness & leadership in multi-cultural environment

• Deep understanding of online business models, business drivers and operational aspects of on line businesses.

• Experience in the online or off line advertising including client, agency and media.

• Experience in the China real estate industry, including new developments and the pre owned market.

• Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred

• English language capability (Chinese is a must)

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; Strong understanding and skills reading and understanding non verbal communication.

• Ability to present and small and larger audiences.

Critical Competencies for Success

Visionary and Strategic thinking - The opportunity for the company in China is enormous. The business model, solutions, partnerships, technical resources deployed and marketing messages will determine the success of the company over the coming years. The ability to provide leadership in vision and think clearly and chose to do those things that will have the greatest impact is essential.

Business Builder and Operation Excellence - This role is first and foremost focused on the numbers. The ability to use marketing, channels, partners, and of course the internal sales force to continue to drive rapid growth is fundamental. He or she must have demonstrated success in delivering profitable growth using well developed strategic plans.

Networking and Team building - Attracting and retaining talent is always an issue in China. He or she must have demonstrated organizational development skills to build the organization in line with the growth strategy. It is essential for him or her to have an expanded network outside of the company so that in case there is an urgent need of a handful of managers, he or she is able to leverage the network to form a productive team quickly.

Impact and influence - Getting things done in the internet space could be restricted by the government policies. He or she must be able to build trust and relationships with government agents and create direct impact and influence in the marketplace. Again, an expanded network is very important here.

Communications skill - The ability to communicate well externally and internally is important. This is a high profile position, often in the media eye. At the same time, it is essential to communicate well back to headquarters and among peers in order to gain agreement and alignment.


Other Personal Characteristics
•Highly ethical. The software/internet industry in China is notorious for ethical issues; extensive referencing will be taken on finalist candidates.

•Entrepreneurial. Although it is a large organization, the people who do best are those who have an entrepreneurial streak, yet function well within big groups.
