common sense: the oil will not burn like this, it is the gushing natural gas that's burning.
Here it is important to distinguish geological reserves and proved reserves.
proved reserves are more relevant, because some oil reserves might be there underground, but it does not make economic sense to explore them.
700m is pretty deep already (not as good as that in Saudi Arabia).
For Tibet oil reserves, we also need to take into consideration the transportation problem--how to transfer them from the World Roof to the eastern coastal regions. This will add lots of more costs to end users. Most of the refinery capacity of China was all along the coastal regions.
I had oil and gas industry experience before, and I think the journalists back in China should get more solid knowledge about what they are talking about before giving out this kind of unprofessional junk.
