Being educated in the west does not automatically make one an elite. An elite should be one who leads the nation in thoughts, science, art, humanity as well as in business. An elite feels the pain of his land and of his people, in stead of feeling supierior to them.
In other words, who he led the nation's recent change, are elites of China. So far in that respect, we (Haigui and overseas Chinese) lag behind the locals. We definitely can do more, but certainly not by being arrogant or condescending.
I also want to clear our something. I am by no means promoting bad business or moral practices, nor am I claiming that everything in China is peachy or that the country does not have crisis. But saying that you have to bribe to do business in China is just misleading and will be laughed at in many parts of China. If that is the basis of one's understanding of China's business landscape, he would be wrong every step of his way.
Having said that, I also understand that I should not take people's rhetorics too literally. Anyone who has survived and thrived for 10 years, must have learned better.
