I live in Midwest, and the oil price has increased at least 40% since last year. Does that sound much better than oil price in China?
IMHO, oil price in the US is also controlled by a few players. There might be competition to some degree, but it's likely price is well coordinated by these major players. These guys are powerful! With a little bit exaggeration, these people basically run the white House. Does this sound much better than in China? At least, Chinese government can handle oil issues based on the overall interests of the country, while US government is scarifying the whole country for some interest groups, Iraq war as an instance.
Even if price in the US is any lower than in China, that is not because US companies are fair, rather, it is because lower price are closer the equilibrium price to maximize profit for them in the long run(I say long run because oil price elasticity is probably small in the short run.)
Actually, high oil price is not entirely bad thing. That might encourage China to try to reduce dependence on foreign oil, solve environment problems, invest in alternative energy sources, reduce energy consumption inefficiency etc. A bad thing in the short run might turn out good in the long run.
