Perhaps you can check with the company to see what deductions you can take.
Some potential deductions include expenses for rental, meal and laundary, education for kids, home passage, and a monthly exemption (RMB4,000 for BJ), which can easily eat RMB10,000 to RMB50,000 a month from your gross and bring your taxable income down by one to three brackets. If this still puts you in the 40% bracket (for RMB80-100K a month net), congratulate yourself. However, 40% is the marginal rate, and the average rate is "only" somewhere between 27% and 30%. If your net is no more than RMB60,000 after the deductions, your avarage rate will ｄｒｏｐ to lower 20s, which may still be higher than your average rate in the US, but probably not by much.
