I doubt there is really love ever in the main character Chris's mind, so it is not really about love v.s. lust, unlike the film narrator described at the end of the film: Is it love or lust?
The main stream thought is: women are THE gold diggers. (A school of thought which is so main stream in this web site, I guess.)
The main character of this film is a male, sort of a gold digger, and a cold blooded killer. A male underdog volunteerily or involunteerily entered into the elite rank, could not restrain his desire of a striking woman who is every inch a beauty with luscious lips, cheated on his wealthy girlfriend/wife, but fearing of losing his adapted luxurious life style, killed his lover who was pregnant with his child.
Miraculously, Chris (the killer) escaped the fate of justice being served ... It is atypical of Hollywood film. But usually that is the endings in real life.
WOODY ALLEN has a pair of sharp eyes ...
