To build an equitable system in healthcare, we need an equitable system in our society as a whole. However, this will be such a big topic! We are so feeble in our relative strength. What can we do? Just give some suggestions.
I had a discussion with my friend who is in bio research. He recently visited Zhang Jiang Hi-tech Zone and found out that any companies doing meaningful business are those from outside of the country. No privately owned Chinese companies doing good research work there. Other labs, set up with government money are just fooling around and doing absolutely no fxxking research. They wasted a lot of money, buying all the fancy equipment and let them sit idle there. Some labs are not even operating. What a joke! So what can you do? Auction them all off?
We might have some good-hearted leaders in Beijing, but so many officials at various levels are corrupted to their bones. I would not say that we do not have corruptions in the West, but at least media has a powerful voice. Elected officials have to watch their behavior and are being watched by media and their constituents.
So when people blame the market orientation of China's healthcare system, we better come up with a better system and it requires a clean government operation. Only thus can there be an equitable healthcare system. I think probably China needs both.
